Fine Vintage Cash, known as “Crystal,” has officially retired from competition and will now transition into her full-time role within the Kingpin Genetics breeding program. A well-deserved change of pace for a mare whose work in the arena is complete.
Until recently, Crystal stood as the rope horse futurity industry’s all-time winningest mare, building a career defined by consistency, durability, and success at every level of competition.
Bred by Robertson Ranches and owned throughout her earlier career by Monty Avery and Chris Avery, Crystal earned $114,461 in competition under the guidance of Andy Holcomb and Fallon Avery, before adding another $25,539 under the campaign of Kaleb Driggers and numerous other PRCA competitors.
Over the course of her career, Crystal proved herself on some of the sport’s biggest stages, including the BFI and The American, while continuing to collect checks at major futurities and World Series qualifiers across the country. A three-time consecutive Royal Crown All-Ages Heeling Champion in 2023 alongside Holcomb, Crystal became known not only for her record, but for the traits horsemen value most: presence, substance, consistency, and an exceptional mind.
She earned the trust of elite competitors across multiple levels of the industry and became the kind of mare programs spend years searching for.
Now retired sound and healthy, Crystal will move fully into the breeding barn, where Kingpin Genetics believes her greatest influence may still be ahead. She has already been crossed on leading sires including BR Golden Leader, Metallic Payday, and Hashtags. Planned crosses for the 2026 breeding season include Metallic Rey Mink and Badboonarising.
Crystal’s career represents the work of many people over many years, and Kingpin Genetics recognizes the horsemen and horsewomen who helped shape her story along the way.
For Kingpin Genetics co-owner Jeremy Barwick, preserving Crystal for the next chapter of her legacy was always part of the bigger picture.
“Any mare that’s given as much as she has to the arena has more than earned this next chapter,” Barwick said. “She’s always been deeply appreciated for what she is and what she’s given, and we’re proud to retire her sound and healthy, exactly as she deserves, and let her carry that legacy forward in the breeding barn.”
Crystal’s legacy in the arena is firmly established. Her influence on the next generation is just beginning.
